New Zealand Working On Monohulls

The fast, foiling catamarans are now out of the America’s Cup and it has been replaced by the monohulls


Emirates, the team of New Zealand, who in the Bermuda won the Auld Mug some three months back, confirmed recently, that they are working on the designs for a single-hulled boat to get the “high-performance”. It will be used in the 36th edition of the marquee regatta of sailing which will held in Auckland at the beginning of 2021.

However, they did not share this fact, whether the boats used in the regatta will have canting keels or foils. But, they have committed to sharing more details about this at the end of the month.

The team of New Zealand made this statement after Patrizio Bertelli, the Italian billionaire and team principal of Luna Rossa, along with the Italian Challenger of Record, and CE of Prada, told to the media that the upcoming regatta will be sailed in the monohulls.

Team New Zealand revealed that a team of designers, which is led by Dan Bernasconi, the design co-ordinator is working on the concept of the various exciting manual which will finally help shape the AC36 Class Rule”.

The Kiwis further added that, they are in touch with a number of potential challengers and consulting with them. They said, “There is a desire to get a spectacular mono- hull yacht is the desire of everyone, everyone in the team wants a yacht that gives astonishing performance in the match, and in addition to that, it should also be the one that connects with the sailors as well as public.”
