New Zealand Working On Monohulls

The fast, foiling catamarans are now out of the America’s Cup and it has been replaced by the monohulls


Emirates, the team of New Zealand, who in the Bermuda won the Auld Mug some three months back, confirmed recently, that they are working on the designs for a single-hulled boat to get the “high-performance”. It will be used in the 36th edition of the marquee regatta of sailing which will held in Auckland at the beginning of 2021.

However, they did not share this fact, whether the boats used in the regatta will have canting keels or foils. But, they have committed to sharing more details about this at the end of the month.

The team of New Zealand made this statement after Patrizio Bertelli, the Italian billionaire and team principal of Luna Rossa, along with the Italian Challenger of Record, and CE of Prada, told to the media that the upcoming regatta will be sailed in the monohulls. Pavlos Kontides Wins Gold

The final day of the World Cup Series at Hyeres was like déjà vu.


That is because Pavlos Kontides, the defending champion, had been able to steal the limelight yet again. He was a Cypriot Laser category sailor this year and was able to win against his rivals successfully once again this year. The last day of the races was the second day when live Medal Races were held. The one or two person dinghies that competed in this event put up exciting scenes for the viewers to watch on the south coast of France where the competitions took place.

The action that came on was despite a cold and overcast day. There was a steady breeze of 8 to 12 knots that did not dampen the spirits of the final competitors who did their best to win their medals at the end of the World Cup Series.

29er Youth Title In Australia

Sydney teenagers Annie Wilmot and Natasha Bryant end up 2016 by being the last world champion of Australia.


Bryant was skipper on the boat and Wilmot were crew mate, they both have won the 29er youth title of world in New Zealand. Meanwhile, the Laser Radial crown was claimed by Alexander.

The success of these three youth at world level encourages Australia to be on top in Olympic sailing.

On the occasion Wilmot said “The winning came as a surprise to us. We are sailing since two and half years and we have never won any regatta. So, this win is extremely nice to us.”

The win is a first international win for Wilmot but she belongs to a family were sailing is everything. Her father, Bobby has won many world championships and he also the winner of the Sydney to Hobart event. The uncle of Wilmot Jamie is an Olympian and he is famous with the name big boat racer. Modern Sailboat By Lyman

A new modern and classical boat has been designed and launched by Lyman-Morse. The construction is being done at Belfast in Maine by Lyman-Morse Thomas and it is a sailboat that is a classic design. The sailboat is a cold molded design that is 65 feet in length. The construction is ongoing at the Belfast construction yard and is being handled by Stephens Waring Yacht Design.

Before the construction began, Drew Lyman, who is president of Lyman-Morse, spent the early part of the year, including the spring and summer months working with SWYD. The owners worked to perfect the design as well as the way it would be constructed. Continue reading “Modern Sailboat By Lyman”

Giles Scott Goes for Gold

There are favorites of every game category before the Olympics have even begun. That is nothing new and in the world of sailing Giles Scott of GB is a name that everyone has been keeping a lookout for. He is said to be a favorite for the gold medal position in Rio 2016 games.

The first day of sailing saw him end in the tenth place. The opening day saw the sailing team of Giles Scott cover Marina da Gloria with mixed results. Being the favorite of the Finn class (after years of practice working for a Scottish yacht charters company) definitely builds up a lot of expectations which is what Giles has been facing, being the Olympian competing in the races from GB. BTA: sailing regattas sees spike in registration

Bermuda’s sailing regattas and races are seeing high registration spikes, assigned to the hullaballoo surrounding America’s Cup, said Bermuda Tourism Authority today.

The Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club reported thirty-four registrations for the Annapolis Bermuda Race this June, with over 2 months still left in the registration procedure. This is an 89% increase over registrations compared to the most recent race in the year 2014.
To date the Newport Bermuda Race 2016, the fiftieth since Royal Bermuda Yacht Club co-arranged the classic in the year 1906, presently has 179 applications to enter. Out of those, hundred and sixty have been accepted, while the rest are working to cope with the tough qualifications. Organizers expect to reach the new two-hunderd boat limit. This would be an increase of twenty-two percent over the year 2014.  The last date for online entry is 15th May.

Belcher and Ryan successfully defend Title

Multiple world champions Mat Belcher and Will Ryan successfully defended their men’s 470 class title at the 2015 Sailing World Cup final in Abu Dhabi. The Queenslanders, who are anticipated to be the team to defeat at the Rio Olympics next year, took a 7-point lead into the final race and offered no one a scope by guiding the fleet home.

Ryan and Belcher have ended on the podium at every major meet they have taken part since teaming up following the London Olympics in 2012, where Belcher won gold with ex crewmate Malcolm Page. They would now direct their concentration just to prepare for the Rio Olympics, beginning with next month’s Copa Brazil de Vela meet in Rio.
